My essentials as a type one diabetic

Firstly, the most important thing there is, insulin. I have a long lasting insulin which I inject every night and fast acting insulin which I inject before anytime I want to eat something

The second essential thing there can be, a cgm! This is a continuous glucos monitor and it basically tells me what my blood sugar is whenever I want or need to know it

these are not an essential but they're very good and useful to have, to me at least. These are cgm patches. These go over your cgm and stop it from unsticking from your arm as well as making it look cute. I buy mine from type one style, diabetic supply or organising chaos!

these are a couple of them I've worn over the last couple months!

next, if you travel a lot this is definitely an essential. Insulin can be kept outside the fridge for a month before it goes bad but it can go bad if it's exposed to the heat so I bought this cooler for my insulin as I was travelling quite a lot this summer. I particularly liked this one because it displays what temperature your insulin is. It comes with two ice packs that stay cold for a while. I bought mine of amazon!

this is totally not an essential but I bought this from diabetic supplies because my reader was boring and I wanted to make it more fun! Following on from the reader, the test strips are an essential. These are to measure your blood sugar (in case your cgm stops working or when your blood sugar is low or high to check the cgm is actually correct) and the ketone test strips are to basically measure the acidity of your blood (which happens when your blood sugar is too high) to know if you need to inject extra insulin or not!

these are definitely an essential to me. These are glucose shots that you drink when your having a hypo (when your blood sugar is too low). I bought these of diabetic supply but I found out they're also sold at boots (if you're reading this from the UK). I read lots of people saying these were disgusting but honestly I liked it and despite it being pure sugar it didn't feel too sickly. Another version of the glucose shot is the chewable version but I prefer the berry flavour. I also have glucose gel but I've never used it yet so I'm yet to find out what it tastes like!

these are not really an essential but they're practical to have. When taking off your cgm it can leave a sticky feeling on your skin because of the adhesive so these are good to take off that stickiness ! Before buying these I used to use an oily makeup remover which also works to remove the adhesive! A spray version of this also exists but I never managed to get my hands on it which is why i went for the wipes in the end.

these are also very practical to have. It's a mini sharps bin to put your used needles in when you're on the go. I use this when I go out and need to take insulin. I can contain quite a few because I used this every time I needed to take insulin which is 4/5 times a day for 2 weeks! I bought mine from diabetic supply!

Another essential is diet drink test strips but I think they're only available in the USA because I can never find them online. They're basically a strip that you test your drink with and depending on the colour of the strip it'll indicate if your drink is diet or not!

These were my essentials, if you have any other essentials share them in the comments!!!! :)
