What I've been up to lately #26

I haven't posted a blog post in forever so I thought I'd do a what I've been up to lately post instead of a what I've been up to this week post! So here's what's been going on lately:

Mum and I went to buy me a new laptop as I was meant to start online school (but in the end I won't be doing that) but on our way there we fancied a drink so we went to Burger King

Carnaval season happened, we didn't take part in it really but one of the bandes went by our house so we went out to watch it

Read this book which isn't the type of book that I usually read but I loved it a lot! I lent it to my mum as it's the type of book she reads and even she loved it! We both gave it a 5 star!

As a dual national you now have to have a French passport and a British passport to be allowed into the UK. Mum and I had a British passport but not a French one (in france you don't NEED a passport as we have ID cards) so we applied for one and got them! Now we're just waiting for my brother and sister's British passports to arrive as they only had a French one (it's all a bit complicated lol)

It snowed!

I had an appointment with a cardiologist in Lille so I dragged mum along with me and we went to a Pub and had steak and chips and we even got desert and I had a Chocolate fondant which was very nice!

We went to England during half term and saw this very funny bottle of wine in the duty free lol

The Game Changers series came out on paper a couple days before we went to England and I've wanted to read Heated Rivalry for the longest time so I bought the whole series !!!! I was chuffed because they had these three in our local Waterstones in the buy one get the other half price but then we had a daytrip to Eastbourne and they had the other 3 books also in the buy one get one half price! We all ended up buying too many books again but we do that everytime we go to England lol!

Had a galette des rois (king's cake) as it was the Epiphany and I got the fève so I was very chuffed with this

We celebrated my sister's 21st birthday

Had fish and chips (well, battered sausage and chips) and when we go to Eastbourne our tradition is to go to Taco Bell!

My mum and my sister bought new shoes in Deichmann and they had this sign that made me giggle

My sister and I went for a walk to get my blood sugar levels down, we went to Aldi to stock up on paracetamol (beacause it costs a fortune in France if you don't have a prescription) and other things we don't find in France. But we'd both seen on tiktok that British Aldis had a selection of books for £3 so we of course had to check those out

We went through the car wash because my sister had never gone through it so we was very excited as she'd been asking to go through it for months!!

Came back home and the next morning there was a really bright rainbow

Spent many hours reading on the train. I finally got round to reading Heated Rivalry as well as The Long Game which were even better than I could have imagined!!!! I also watched the show (based on the first book - the second season of the show will be about the second book) and I also LOVED it, I'm currently re reading the books lol because I'm in a reading slump so it'll get me going again!

Spent even more hours reading at the coffee shop, mostly with my mum but also on my own a few times which was very fun!

Had heart shaped pasta as it was Valentine's day

Started going my makeup again which is very fun

This has been my go to makeup this month, I've been wearing it almost every day but I also wore different coloured makeup such as orange. I love wearing bright coloured makeup in the spring / summer, it brightens my mood!

It was the 8 year anniversary of my dad's death which was very sad

Found the new franui in store (its basically raspberries covered in white chocolate covered in either dark, milk or ruby chocolate)

It was the local elections a couple weeks ago so me and my sister went to vote together

Went to the restaurant with my mum

My mum's school has a handball team and they were qualified to the final so we went to support them twice, neither of us knew anything about handball but it was still very fun

Went to read at the beach a few times as the weather is starting to be nice

Harry Styles released a new album and I received my merch a couple weeks ago

Me and my mum went for a picnic at the beach and as I went to the shop to grab us each a drink I found the asian food so I got these salted caramel pringles and some banana pringles which were supprisingly nice

I also found these red velvet cookies and barbeque flavoured pop corn which were also very nice

Went to Lille a couple times to bring my brother to the orthodontist

Most exciting part of the last couple months was going to a hockey game with my mum. I'd accumulated a bit of knowledge about hockey since reading Heated Rivalry and I got to put that to use in real life lol. It was very fun I'm excited to go there again at some point!

Saw my sister a couple times when she came home to Dunkirk because she lives in Lille with her boyfriend now!

I've loved the brand about face for the longest time and they recently launched in stores in Europe which is very exciting and also bad news for my purse lol

Bought this t-shirt which I find hilarous - it's a play of words on Harry Styles' new album title 'Kiss all the time. Disco, occasionally' and Heated Rivalry! My two worlds colliding!

Had to go to the doctors to get a new prescription for one of my tablets and walked past these really pretty flowers on my way home

Ordered some skincare and makeup on yesstyle and received my order this week, I can't wait to use all of these!!!

They opened the outside seating of the bars at the beach as it's spring and me and mum went for an alcohol-free cocktail which was nice as the weather was lovely!

And that's basically all I've been up to lately!!!!

What I've been up to this week #25

I started the week by going to Lille for a day because I had a couple of medical appointments there. I ended up going to my favourite coffee shop that I haven't been to since I moved back home. She still remembered my order ahah!!!! I always get a salted caramel iced coffee with oat milk. They don't even charge for oat milk which is a change because usally you have to pay extra when you have oat milk and they even use my favourite oat milk which is a bonus! I ended up having lunch with my sister because she ended up not going to uni that day! We had her version of pasta carbonara which I have to admit is even nicer than normal pasta carbonara!!!!

I went to the library a couple times this week and read a lot and even started revisions for the tax office exam that I'll be signing up to in a couple of months!

I finished a book which I ended up loving a lot and would definitely recommend, I'll probably end up giving it to my sister because it's the type of book she reads!

The most exciting part of the week was signing up to online school. I enrolled in a international business class. I studied business for 2 years at Hastings College, I loved it and I had really good results so I have a feeling I'm going to really enjoy this course!

On Saturday, we went to the Chineese all you can eat buffet for my sister's birthday. We also went and bought me a new laptop as I'm starting online school

What I've been up to this week #24

The week started off badly, me and my sister tried to get Harry Styles tickets for 3 hours but failed. However, on Tuesday, while we were on the train to Paris, we tried again (and failed again) but one of my friends texted me saying she was in the queue for tickets with not many people in front of her and asked if we wanted her to get tickets for us (she doesn't like Harry Styles) so OF COURSE we said yes, and she managed to get some!!!!

So as I said we spent tuesday and Wednesday in Paris because we were going to a concert. We made it to our hotel and both thought it looked really fancy but we got to our room and it was tiny but the good thing is it was only 600m from the concert venue which was perfect.

Me and my sister got ready and put makeup on and got ready for the concert.

The concert was at the Olympia, and if you know anything about this venue, it's tiny!! We were really close to the stage but halfway through the show my sister needed the toilet so we ended up at the back but I didn't mind. It was a lot of fun, the show lasted for over 3 hours!!

On my way home, I bought muffins for everyone and they were lovely, they were Snickers muffins!

On Friday mum and I went to the Thai restaurant for lunch, I had a chicken pad thai which I always love.

I started a new book

What I've been uo to this week #22 + #23

I haven't been doing as much / taking as many photos since I left Lille / Christmas is over so here's a recap of the last couple weeks!

Went to Lille because I had a couple of medical appointments. I'm in the process of transfering all my medical team from Lille to Dunkirk so it may be my las few times in Lille for a while. They had put the Christmas market away but the big wheel was still up.

Went to the restaurant with my mum a couple of times

Harry Styles announced a new album, released a new song AND a new music video in the span of a week after not releasing any music for almost 4 years. He also announced a tour in a couple of cities including Amsterdam which is the closest he's coming which me and my sister were going to try and get tickets to but the logistics of it is too complicated which is quite sad because I've been to every one of his tours since he started his solo career. We're hoping he comes to France or at least Belgium next year so we can hopefully get tickets and see him but we'll see.

Got my hair cut (she cut it way shorter than I wanted) so I'm not too keen on it at the moment but it'll grow back

My blood sugar levels have been really high lately so I'm making an effort to eat a lot more vegetables so it helps keep my levels in range (or at least a bit more in range)

Did a lot of reading over the last 2 weeks. I finished 2 books including Love, Simon which will always be special to me. It was the first queer book I read and I still enjoy it as much as I did the first time I read it. I also rewatched the film for the millionth time which was again the first queer film I watched and it's still as special to me years later.

Here's the book I'm starting now. Lots of my friends have read it and said it was really good so I decided to give it a chance!

Me and mum applied for French passports so we had to have our ID photos taken lol!

What I've been up to this week #21

Started the week with a fun (not) trip to the dentist because my gum was really sore on one side and the pain was getting worse and worse. I went and she told me I had an inflammation and an infection which felt like a relief because I was scared it was going to be tooth decay. I looked up online and apparently people with diabetes are more likely to get tooth decay because if their blood sugar levels are high it means their saliva is sugary which can cause tooth decay. She also said one of my wisdom teeth hadn't grown like the others so if I don't get it removed it's likely to get infected again but I've decided I'd rather be in pain than get my tooth removed lol. Anyways here's the lovely sunrise that waited for me when I left my appointment.

I decided I deserved a sweet treat after going to the dentist so I went into town to the coffee shop we usually go to with my mum to finish my book and have a coffee with a bit of biscoff cheesecake which was very nice but it made my blood sugar go very high afterwards lol. I also got a smoothie for mum and met her after work.

Speaking of books, I've kind of been in a reading slump since I finished my best friend's honeymoon and the only thing I've read this week are graphic novels so here's what I read this week! My favourites were my best friend's honeymoon, ces jours qui disparaissent, petite fille deviendra grand and l'endometriose de Clara!

My best friend's honeymoon is about a woman whose husband to be plans their wedding for in a week without warning her, she dumps him and he tells her to still go on the honeymoon that he had planned for them and she goes with her best friend. Things happen and they end up dating.

Petite fille deviendra grand is about a little girl who grows up and discovers she's trans so you follow the character's life over the years and all the steps they go through to get gender affirming care.

In waves is about a man whose girlfriend gets sick and they used to go surfing together and in parallel it also explains the history of surfing etc. The girlfriend dies and the moral of the story is grief comes in waves, the story was lovely but the explaining the history of surfing was a bit boring which is why I only gave it 2 stars.

Point de fuite is the story of a girl who we discover is pregnant but she wants to (and does) get an abortion but the story is so weird nothing really happens except that.

L'endometriose de Clara is about a girl who discovers she has endometriosis and as someone who's been told they might have endometriosis it was very interesting.

Ces jours qui disparaissent is about a man who we discover has DID (dissociative identity disorder) also known as multiple identity disorder. And the story is really interesting you get to know both personalities of the same character and how it impacts his every day life, I loved it, it was really interesting and well written.

The most exciting part of the week was probably Friday because I had lunch with my best friend who I hadn't seen since a few weeks before I left my Lille flat so it must have been at least 6 weeks since I saw him. We went to a restaurant in town and I often have fish and chips when I go to the restaurant which I did this time but it wasn't the same as usual and was quite disappointing but still, I had a nice time.

Re reading a book I loved a few years ago because the book that follows this one just came out and I wanted to re read the first one before reading the second one. Only 2 chapters in so far though!

Next week I have a couple of appointments in Lille but we'll see what else happens during the week!
