What I've been up to this week #21

Started the week with a fun (not) trip to the dentist because my gum was really sore on one side and the pain was getting worse and worse. I went and she told me I had an inflammation and an infection which felt like a relief because I was scared it was going to be tooth decay. I looked up online and apparently people with diabetes are more likely to get tooth decay because if their blood sugar levels are high it means their saliva is sugary which can cause tooth decay. She also said one of my wisdom teeth hadn't grown like the others so if I don't get it removed it's likely to get infected again but I've decided I'd rather be in pain than get my tooth removed lol. Anyways here's the lovely sunrise that waited for me when I left my appointment.

I decided I deserved a sweet treat after going to the dentist so I went into town to the coffee shop we usually go to with my mum to finish my book and have a coffee with a bit of biscoff cheesecake which was very nice but it made my blood sugar go very high afterwards lol. I also got a smoothie for mum and met her after work.

Speaking of books, I've kind of been in a reading slump since I finished my best friend's honeymoon and the only thing I've read this week are graphic novels so here's what I read this week! My favourites were my best friend's honeymoon, ces jours qui disparaissent, petite fille deviendra grand and l'endometriose de Clara!

My best friend's honeymoon is about a woman whose husband to be plans their wedding for in a week without warning her, she dumps him and he tells her to still go on the honeymoon that he had planned for them and she goes with her best friend. Things happen and they end up dating.

Petite fille deviendra grand is about a little girl who grows up and discovers she's trans so you follow the character's life over the years and all the steps they go through to get gender affirming care.

In waves is about a man whose girlfriend gets sick and they used to go surfing together and in parallel it also explains the history of surfing etc. The girlfriend dies and the moral of the story is grief comes in waves, the story was lovely but the explaining the history of surfing was a bit boring which is why I only gave it 2 stars.

Point de fuite is the story of a girl who we discover is pregnant but she wants to (and does) get an abortion but the story is so weird nothing really happens except that.

L'endometriose de Clara is about a girl who discovers she has endometriosis and as someone who's been told they might have endometriosis it was very interesting.

Ces jours qui disparaissent is about a man who we discover has DID (dissociative identity disorder) also known as multiple identity disorder. And the story is really interesting you get to know both personalities of the same character and how it impacts his every day life, I loved it, it was really interesting and well written.

The most exciting part of the week was probably Friday because I had lunch with my best friend who I hadn't seen since a few weeks before I left my Lille flat so it must have been at least 6 weeks since I saw him. We went to a restaurant in town and I often have fish and chips when I go to the restaurant which I did this time but it wasn't the same as usual and was quite disappointing but still, I had a nice time.

Re reading a book I loved a few years ago because the book that follows this one just came out and I wanted to re read the first one before reading the second one. Only 2 chapters in so far though!

Next week I have a couple of appointments in Lille but we'll see what else happens during the week!

  1. Your reading slump has definitely come to an end. It was good for you to catch up with your friend even if the food wasn't great. The cheesecake made up for it ! xx
