What I've been up to this week #24

The week started off badly, me and my sister tried to get Harry Styles tickets for 3 hours but failed. However, on Tuesday, while we were on the train to Paris, we tried again (and failed again) but one of my friends texted me saying she was in the queue for tickets with not many people in front of her and asked if we wanted her to get tickets for us (she doesn't like Harry Styles) so OF COURSE we said yes, and she managed to get some!!!!

So as I said we spent tuesday and Wednesday in Paris because we were going to a concert. We made it to our hotel and both thought it looked really fancy but we got to our room and it was tiny but the good thing is it was only 600m from the concert venue which was perfect.

Me and my sister got ready and put makeup on and got ready for the concert.

The concert was at the Olympia, and if you know anything about this venue, it's tiny!! We were really close to the stage but halfway through the show my sister needed the toilet so we ended up at the back but I didn't mind. It was a lot of fun, the show lasted for over 3 hours!!

On my way home, I bought muffins for everyone and they were lovely, they were Snickers muffins!

On Friday mum and I went to the Thai restaurant for lunch, I had a chicken pad thai which I always love.

I started a new book

What I've been uo to this week #22 + #23

I haven't been doing as much / taking as many photos since I left Lille / Christmas is over so here's a recap of the last couple weeks!

Went to Lille because I had a couple of medical appointments. I'm in the process of transfering all my medical team from Lille to Dunkirk so it may be my las few times in Lille for a while. They had put the Christmas market away but the big wheel was still up.

Went to the restaurant with my mum a couple of times

Harry Styles announced a new album, released a new song AND a new music video in the span of a week after not releasing any music for almost 4 years. He also announced a tour in a couple of cities including Amsterdam which is the closest he's coming which me and my sister were going to try and get tickets to but the logistics of it is too complicated which is quite sad because I've been to every one of his tours since he started his solo career. We're hoping he comes to France or at least Belgium next year so we can hopefully get tickets and see him but we'll see.

Got my hair cut (she cut it way shorter than I wanted) so I'm not too keen on it at the moment but it'll grow back

My blood sugar levels have been really high lately so I'm making an effort to eat a lot more vegetables so it helps keep my levels in range (or at least a bit more in range)

Did a lot of reading over the last 2 weeks. I finished 2 books including Love, Simon which will always be special to me. It was the first queer book I read and I still enjoy it as much as I did the first time I read it. I also rewatched the film for the millionth time which was again the first queer film I watched and it's still as special to me years later.

Here's the book I'm starting now. Lots of my friends have read it and said it was really good so I decided to give it a chance!

Me and mum applied for French passports so we had to have our ID photos taken lol!

What I've been up to this week #21

Started the week with a fun (not) trip to the dentist because my gum was really sore on one side and the pain was getting worse and worse. I went and she told me I had an inflammation and an infection which felt like a relief because I was scared it was going to be tooth decay. I looked up online and apparently people with diabetes are more likely to get tooth decay because if their blood sugar levels are high it means their saliva is sugary which can cause tooth decay. She also said one of my wisdom teeth hadn't grown like the others so if I don't get it removed it's likely to get infected again but I've decided I'd rather be in pain than get my tooth removed lol. Anyways here's the lovely sunrise that waited for me when I left my appointment.

I decided I deserved a sweet treat after going to the dentist so I went into town to the coffee shop we usually go to with my mum to finish my book and have a coffee with a bit of biscoff cheesecake which was very nice but it made my blood sugar go very high afterwards lol. I also got a smoothie for mum and met her after work.

Speaking of books, I've kind of been in a reading slump since I finished my best friend's honeymoon and the only thing I've read this week are graphic novels so here's what I read this week! My favourites were my best friend's honeymoon, ces jours qui disparaissent, petite fille deviendra grand and l'endometriose de Clara!

My best friend's honeymoon is about a woman whose husband to be plans their wedding for in a week without warning her, she dumps him and he tells her to still go on the honeymoon that he had planned for them and she goes with her best friend. Things happen and they end up dating.

Petite fille deviendra grand is about a little girl who grows up and discovers she's trans so you follow the character's life over the years and all the steps they go through to get gender affirming care.

In waves is about a man whose girlfriend gets sick and they used to go surfing together and in parallel it also explains the history of surfing etc. The girlfriend dies and the moral of the story is grief comes in waves, the story was lovely but the explaining the history of surfing was a bit boring which is why I only gave it 2 stars.

Point de fuite is the story of a girl who we discover is pregnant but she wants to (and does) get an abortion but the story is so weird nothing really happens except that.

L'endometriose de Clara is about a girl who discovers she has endometriosis and as someone who's been told they might have endometriosis it was very interesting.

Ces jours qui disparaissent is about a man who we discover has DID (dissociative identity disorder) also known as multiple identity disorder. And the story is really interesting you get to know both personalities of the same character and how it impacts his every day life, I loved it, it was really interesting and well written.

The most exciting part of the week was probably Friday because I had lunch with my best friend who I hadn't seen since a few weeks before I left my Lille flat so it must have been at least 6 weeks since I saw him. We went to a restaurant in town and I often have fish and chips when I go to the restaurant which I did this time but it wasn't the same as usual and was quite disappointing but still, I had a nice time.

Re reading a book I loved a few years ago because the book that follows this one just came out and I wanted to re read the first one before reading the second one. Only 2 chapters in so far though!

Next week I have a couple of appointments in Lille but we'll see what else happens during the week!

What I've been up to this week #20

Started the week by going back home after a week in England

Received this plaque we made for the dog

Had pasta carbonara as our first meal back from England

Went into town and the sunset made the clock tower look very nice

Got my goodreads year in book recap which I always get so excited to get. My objective was originally to read 12 books in 2025 but then I reached it and put it back up to 20 but in the end I read 37 books which I'm quite impressed about

Ended the year by eating my first ever colin the caterpillar with mum after a night of picky bits on NYE

Here's my last book of 2025 and my first book of 2026!!

Onto a next book!

Went to the cinema with mum to watch the housemaid. I'd read the book earlier this year and was so excited about the film. They had Sydney Sweeney and the actress from Mama Mia in it and the soundtrack included Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift so I was chuffed with that! By the time we were leaving the cinema it was night time but we saw the sunset just before it was dark!

Mum and I were bored on Saturday so we decided to go into town for a wander. Nothing very exciting, we got a drink and a snack from Normal, I got a new journal for my junk journaling and we got our glasses tightened up. As I'm writing this, we're waiting to see if our favourite store puts up a too good to go bag up so we can go pick one (or two or three) up but so far since we've been back they haven't put any up so our expectations are low!
