What I've been up to this week #4

I thought I'd start my "what I've been up to this week" series so let's catch up !

started the week by making an apple pie. I didn't really follow a recipe but basically I put a layer of puff pastry at the bottom of a pan, then cut a bunch of apples (we had loads that needed to get used because we picked up a too good to go bag) so I used 7 apples, eye balled the sugar and cinnamon then put another layer of puff pastry on top and cooked it for 45mn. It was very nice!

mum finishes work later than usual this year so I said I'd make dinner as often as possible so she does’t have to worry about it which was the case that day. I made homemade chips (I cut a bunch of potatoes into small pieces, covered them in oil and added salt, garlic granules and rosemary then cooked in the airfryer for an hour), curry flavoured courgettes and chicken with oriental spices! It was also very nice

I also reached my goodreads objective which I've already changed twice because I reached it already. I started the year by reading like 7 books in 3-4 months then was in a reading slump because I started a really boring book then I read like 10 books in the span of 3 months so I'm very glad to be out of that reading slump!!!

speaking of books here are the books I read this week. I finished reading the coldest touch which I LOVED, then I read strange houses which I read in less than 24 hours because it was so good, then I read strange pictures from the same author which I also read in like 10 hours and then I started reading one last song but I decided to put it as did not finish on goodreads because it was so boring in my opinion ahaha!!!

went out for a beer with my best friend. My favourite beer is always fruit beer which doesn't always agree with my blood sugar but it's always worth it in my opinion!

I go to the well-being health center every few days to see different doctors and one of my nurses signed me up to a group therapy activity group and it's a cooking group!!! Which I'm very excited about. It actually started last week but because there were only 2 of us (+ 2 nurses) they invited us to the restaurant (and paid for everything) so that was a bonus but that meant we only started actual cooking this week! We made mash with leek fondue with chicken and we made an apple crumble as a dessert! I wonder what we'll cook next week !

then I got the train back home

mum got this alpro dairy free milk in a degustabox a couple months ago and I just rediscovered it in the cupboard and I ended up drinking the whole bottle in 2 days. I'm dairy intolerant so I've tried so many different dairy free milks, my favourite is oatly barista milk (the grey bottle) and alpro (because they also do yoghurts !) but this has already become a new favourite so I'll have to look out for it in the shops!

had to change my cgm (continuous glucose monitor) and put this cute patch on it, I get all my cgm covers from type one style or organising chaos

cooked up a storm yesterday and spent the whole afternoon cooking. I made: a bluberry pie (same recipe as the apple pie but I used 600g of blueberries instead!), homemade chips again, cauliflower cheese (steam the cauliflower then to make the cheese sauce: melt a bit of butter, then add flour and milk I then added 300g of cheddar) and lastly it doesn't look very appetizing but it was very nice, I made a tomato and balsamic glaze salad!

I wonder what I'll be up to next week!! :)

our holiday in Marrakesh, Morocco !

time to take off!!!! We left from Orly airport in Paris so we had a 3 hour flight to Marrakesh!

made it to the hotel, we were greeted by a very lovely team at the hotel medina club valeria in marrakesh

me, my sister and her boyfriend went on an excursion to the ouzoud waterfalls which was a 3h trip there and 3 hour trip back. It was very pretty but i'm not sure if the 6 hours trip was worth it (because you have to go down 750 steps which you then have to climb back up again !!! knackering !) but other than that it was nice. We had some lovely food, which a cat tried to steal from us!

took this lovely photo of my sister

this is what the waterfalls looked like, very pretty !

one of the barmen took this picture of mum and I at the bar (where we went at least 10x a day to get alcohol free cocktails (it was an all inclusive hotel so we were making the most of it!!!)

the four of us took a cooking class during which we were taught how to make chicken, olive and preserved lemon tagine! we were also taught how to make babaganoush, shakshouka and an apple and cabbage salad (we didn't like the babaganoush or the apple and cabbage salad but the shakshouka was very nice!)

pierre made a friend at the souk!

my sister and I went in a hot air balloon to watch the sunrise on the Atlas mountains! The takeoff was a bit scary (mainly beacause of how loud the fans that blow the balloon up are) but once you're in the air it's not at all scary !!! we went up to 1000m !

saw my dream car at the hotel, which reminded me that I start driving lessons again next month (which is depressing)

we went on another excursion which included a visit to a local pharmacy where they sell loads of different teas, herbs, spices, creams,...

saw many cats

here are some other pictures, we went to koranic school which was very pretty (they have bedrooms for the students that studied there and they're tiny!!!!)

came back to the hotel and were greeted by many cats again before heading to the pool with a drink and a couple slices of freshly made pizza !

we took a taxi to go to the souk and the driver took us to another local pharmacy where they had a special area for diabetes which made me laugh!

wore my lovely dress I bought in Tesco!

on our second night at the hotel it was Bastille Day so the hotel made a special thing out of it by serving cocktails and nibbly bits before going to the restaurant!

me and mum at the bar as usual!

our hotel had this secret garden area which we sat in a couple times to eat olives before going to the restaurant or to have a cocktail! it was very pretty

then it was time to head back home to grotty weather (which was kinda nice after 45°C every day for two weeks!

about face by halsey product review

the first product from about face that i discovered are the fluid eye paints, I started with only 2 shades a turquoise shade and a green shade but then a couple weeks ago ordered more and now i just found a couple shades on vinted for very cheap so my collection is growing!

I love the way they feel and the easiness which which they apply and blend. Here are a couple looks I’ve done I haven’t tested out all the shade yet but if you’d like to see more when I do try them check out my instagram sophiesbilingualworld for more!

I also bought the highlighter and a brow product (which i use as as mascara). The highlighter is amazing it feels kinda velvety on the fingers and stays glowing for hours

I can’t wait to try out more of about face’s products because i’ve been very impressed by all the products i’ve tried so far !! :)

review of the milk makeup jelly blushes

i recently bought these new ish jelly blushes from the brand milk makeup. I love wearing blush so I was definitely excited to try these out.

this is what they both looked like on the back of my hand ; one was more pink and the other was more peachy which is right up my street in terms of blush shades

this is what it looked like on. I decided to try the peachy shade first and i LOVED it!!! So easy to blend, and overall a very fun product to use!!

I can’t wait to discover more Milk Makeup products as trying these blushes definitely made me want to try more of their products

life with diabetes

Hi all, I haven’t posted on here at all for the last few years and my mum told me to find a hobby so i’m trying out blogging again.

As you may not know, I was diagnosed with diabetes a year ago and life hasn’t been the same since.

I discovered I had diabetes after a regular normal blood test when the person who took my blood, the school nurse and another nurse all frantically called me asking if i knew i had diabetes so which i responded something along the lines of well apparently I do! My blood sugar levels after that blood test were 3.7 which is Very High!!  Your normal levels should be between 1.4 and 1.6!

I was immediately sent to hospital for 10 days and I started taking metformin and slow insulin (14 units then- im at 74 now) and they gave me a captor to put in my arm so i can check my blood sugar whenever i want or need. I quite like having a captor it’s a fun game to see who has one (especially in the summer when nobody’s wearing coats !!) and a lot more people have them than I could have guessed!

After that came a series of test and meetings with the diabetic nurse to find out what type of Diabetes I have (type 1 or 2) and of course i ended up with type 1 which means I’ll be taking insulin my whole life which isn’t great but oh well.

After a year of dealing with slow insulin every night and a big injection of insulin once a week i was introduced to fast insulin which I have to take before every meal (firstly just at breakfast and then every meal 20 units or more depending on my blood sugar levels) and despite all that my levels were still high so i was hospitalized for another week which really helped lower my levels but now i’m home it’s back to being high depending on what i eat!

I always have to think about how what i’m eating will impact my blood sugar and sometimes have to make sacrifices like if everyone is eating chocolate or cakes and my blood sugar is high I’ll have to give it a skip. My mum will read this and say i’m lying because i do eat chocolate but only when my blood sugar is low which is rare.

One thing i learnt in hospital which honestly surprised me is that coke 0 or diet coke will still make your blood sugar rise (less of course than normal coke) because your body doesn’t know the difference between real and fake sugar!

Here’s to hoping my blood sugar is low on christmas day so I can enjoy Christmas dinner without having to worry about my sugar levels all day!! I can hope for a christmas miracle can’t I?!
